The employees working in the state of New York have to contribute at least 0.5% of their weekly wages. The maximum amount that they have to contribute is $0.60 per week. Apart from this the balance has to be paid by the employers along with a share of the state's administrative costs. According to the IRS the employer contributions to the state plan or a private plan are completely deductible by the employer. Also they are considered to be a taxable income to the employee. The contributions made by the employees to the state fund are deductible in form of the state taxes. On the other hand the contributions made to a private plan are treated as nondeductible personal expenses. To be eligible for the benefits provided under the laws the employees have to have at least four consecutive weeks of covered employment. The maximum weekly benefits provided to an employee are $170 a week and the minimum benefit is $20 a week. The benefits are based on 50% of the average weekly wage earned for the eight weeks before the disability. It also includes the week in which the disability happened. In case an employee earns less than $20 weekly wages, his/her benefit will be the average weekly wage.
